Duke Energy is watching the weather and getting ready to take action in case the weekend wintry weather brings power outages. Jeff Brooks, spokesperson for Duke Energy, said the big question for them is whether this turns out to be primarily a snow or ice event.

Parts of East Greensboro went dark today. Duke Energy has decided to turn off power in some homes and repair damaged equipment.

Duke Energy also encourages people who use a generator to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and not use them in a closed space, like a garage. The best advice the company can give is to be prepared for the worst.

Friday morning did not see any major outages ahead of the winter storm bringing snow, ice, and freezing rain, according to the Duke Energy Outage map. But the map may look very different in a few hours due to Mother Nature.
