This is because scientism focuses on natural explanations rather than stories about a god creating many kinds all at once (which is one way some religious groups say life became diverse).
But, when non-scientific claims cloak themselves in scientific authority, or science claims to reach beyond the limits imposed by its own methodology, you have scientism. And the left falls for it.
