At least two people are dead and many more injured as several fires broke out across Southern California amid historically dry and windy conditions. Tens of thousands were evacuated as more than 5,000 acres burned in the Palisades Fire in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Los Angeles.

Firefighters have made some progress in containing the devastating wildfires near Los Angeles, California, which have scorched more than 45 square miles, killed five people, and burned more than 1,300 buildings – many of them homes.

Five people are dead as fires continue to rage in Los Angeles. More than 130,000 people are under evacuation orders. The five deaths are blamed on the Eaton Fire, which has burned more than 16 square miles and more than 900 structures,

The Eaton Fire in the Angeles National Forest has grown to more than 10,600 acres, devastating Pasadena and Altadena, where two historic churches – St. Mark's Episcopal Church and Altadena Community Church – were evacuated before being reduced to ash.

President-elect Donald Trump is blaming California Gov. Gavin Newsom for the wildfires that are spreading in parts of Los Angeles County. CBS News' Caitlin Huey-Burns reports.
