If you have many emails in your own mailbox, and it will take a long time to sync the emails from the server to your outlook client with Exchange /IMAP, and if you don’t need the old emails anymore in your mailbox, you can try to go to the web side to delete them from your mailbox ( remove them from your inbox and then remove again from the deleted items folder).
