This kind of took me by surprise as I had been under the impression that, aside from gold and silver for ornamental purposes, Native American technology had not advanced beyond the stone age.

There was a huge hoard of hoes found around Mexico city a few decades ago, they were from what I heard pretty cheap for quite a while in the 60's.
