2007年12月12日 · In AE, we often say "I thought you were somebody/someone else." "I mistook/confused you for someone else" is idiomatic. "Confounded" is not idiomatic for this purpose. "I mixed you up with someone else" would not be as understandable; I might use this if I have erroneously said something about a person who I am talking to. "How's it going?

If by "clear" you mean "explicit", all I can imagine doing to the sentence is using modals that are more "hypothetical" and adding a then to logically connect somebody else's buying the thing to my missing my chance at the bargain:
