Most of the Hokkien Chinese in Singapore originated from Amoy region, as well as Zhangzhou, Quanzhou, TongAn, Hui-An. Essentially, it's a mixed form of Hokkien, similar to what Amoy Hokkien/Taiwanese Hokkien is etc.

However, the southern Fujianese is way different from the the Fujianese spoken in the provincial capital -- Fuzhou -- much north.

But the Hokkien spoken in most of the rest of Hokkienland (southern Hokkien, or Fujian in Mandarin) can be pretty different, lexically and phonologically. 1B. 2014年9月23日 · Advice for learning MSM Hokkien First I'd immerse in online media in MSM Hokkien, e.g. movie scenes in Hokkien out of Singapore, and Astro Hua Hee Dai if You can get it where You are. Even just have it playing in the background. If You want to use print materials, pick a dialect. Pick either Penang/Medan (mostly the same thing) or Singapore/Johor.

I would like to get on with my task of learning Taiwanese Hokkien without getting too political and feel I need to answer a few of your questions as well. I started learning Mandarin in the beginning of 2009 and since then have benefited a lot from all the great advice available here.

2014年9月23日 · Jakarta Indonesian is so converged to Hokkien that anybody that takes it on for real is in fact learning Hokkien patterns and idiom through it. So, by all means get started on Indonesian High Malay, but if You want a quicker shot of Malay just for Hokkien purposes, an old primer on Bazaar Malay or any type of Baba Malay might be the fastest way in.

I got JWAHN LWAIH JWAHN HEUIH from the Minnan Romanization even though I don't speak Hokkien and my native dialect is Taishanese which I find quite remarkable. It's a set phrase, so, this is kind of a play on words thing going on. ;-0
