2020年7月2日 · “What’s your poison” was cited in July 1871. “Choose your poison” and “pick your poison” both appear to have come later. “Choose your poison” has been cited in print since at least 1888 and “pick your poison” since at least 1913. Intoxicating liquor no longer has to be the “poison” of the subject.

The earliest instance, recorded in 1933, has: the river rises once again and floats your boat away. In the quagmire, I did not find any trace of the Oxford English Dictionary's citation, 1981, which Wordwizard listed.
