Pyrolysis is the process of thermal decomposition of materials at elevated temperatures, often in an inert atmosphere [1] without access to oxygen. The word pyrolysis is coined from the Greek -derived elements pyro- (from Ancient Greek πῦρ : pûr - "fire, heat, fever") and lysis (λύσις : lúsis - "separation, loosening").
