Since there are plenty of apps for practicing puzzles, I'd like a book that shows the main ideas about how to play xiangqi. Right now I feel like almost randomly moving my pieces around the board, with no idea what I'm doing, just paying attention to tactics.

Almost all of the xiangqi sites and apps I stumbled upon either use a bounty system (so when you run out of cash, come back tomorrow) or are visually repellent (playOK).

2021年4月19日 · In xiangqi too, there is this emphasis on mating too; in addition to technique, a large part of xiangqi training is solving mate problems. These (like in shogi) have every move a check (emphasising attacking speed), but despite this constraint can be very, very difficult to solve and good for training (even the short ones, also the long ones.)

You can review games if you register, a certainly great way to improve for sure. Chinese chess, xiangqi endgame is largely an offline app. Do some daily endgame puzzles here.

I went down a bit of a rabbit hole looking at different historical variants and popular modern variants, and decided I was interested enough to get one. I whittled it down to xiangqi, shogi or tori shogi because the piece properties were interesting, then decided on xiangqi because there seems to be a healthy number of online resources.

2023年1月3日 · I only know Xiangqi, and I really recommend doing tactics puzzles for it. Because there are more limitations on piece movement, you have to calculate crazy deep. Really trains your memory and visualization.
