2019年12月28日 · I saw a crankset made of 2014-T6 aluminum alloy (so it was claimed). I read that this alloy is somewhere in between 6061 and 7075 in terms of strength. I also learned that it is also more brittle than both 7075 and 6061. But the thing that caught my attention was its bad corrosion resistance. According to the Wikipedia:

Vs an aluminum frame will more likely than not be OK. I'd have to spend over $1000 more to get a carbon frame and as good components (Shimano 105 or above) so I don't know if its worth it or not. I'm just a casual cyclist who likes to go on long solo rides for fitness/fun.

I've test ridden the 2014 Defy Advanced carbon 1 with Ultegra, 2013 Defy carbon 2 with SRAM Apex, and 2014 Defy 1 aluminum with 105. I did not ride enough to tell if the Advanced carbon is that much better than the regular carbon but both are much nicer and smoother to ride than the aluminum. I think this will be good for longer rides.

2014年1月23日 · Aluminum forms an oxidation layer any time it comes in contact with the air. It's actually good and is why aluminum doesn't rust. If you sand that top layer down it will just form a new layer of oxidation when it comes in contact with the air.. I am not an expert and may be wrong but I'm pretty sure.. –

Both carbon fibre and aluminum bikes can get quite close to the UCI weight limit of 15 pounds, and most of the weight is in the components and wheels, not in the frame of the bike. The frame and fork will only weight 4-5 pounds, and the rest of the stuff will take up the remaining 10-15 pounds. –

2024年1月13日 · The 2014 Kona Zone has aluminum dropouts in the carbon frame. The hangers which are outside the frame (the 2014 BMC TMR01 has them inside the frame) do not fit as well as I would like; clamping the wheel moves the derailleur visibly. Shimming and shaving helps. –

Commented Jan 10, 2014 at 13:30 Aside from primer protecting the metal and making the paint stick more easily, primer also lets you get the color right more easily. A can of primer is like 5 bucks and a few hours of drying time, so you really have little to lose by doing it.
