Apr 20, 2019 · For open root compared to 6010 that's right, 7018 on open root is about the same but a little more violent and harder to control, over here using 6010 or any other rod that's not low hydrogen on pipe other than low pressure water supply lines is unheard of, we really don't use 6010 for pipe at all, it's all done with 7016 all the way or 7016 root and 7018 fill and cap.

May 8, 2015 · 7018 is a low hydrogen rod designed to prevent hydrogen cracking in higher carbon steels. On low carbon steels like A36 or the typical hot rolled bar and plate that most use, you really don't need a low hydrogen rod. 7018 is a bit more ductile than 7014 is, but for small household projects 7014 will work just fine.

Sep 2, 2015 · 7014 vs 7018 on the farm A good way to quickly dry out 7018 is just stick it and let it heat up. You will see the moisture steam out for a split second and then weld away. Not for code work. But on the farm works great. And 7014. Is a great farm rod. Perfect mix between 6010 and 7018 in my opinion. I've even done down hand pipeline with it.

Sep 27, 2012 · I got a box of 7014's to try out. Strikes an arc soooo smooth, welds so easily, beads are really nice and slag pops right off. The 7014 will probably be my rod of choice from now on for general stuff. I'll just use the old 6013's for tack rods. BTW, isn't the 7014 considered more of a "drag" rod than the others? Thanks for the input!

Jul 16, 2003 · Regular 7018 is a DC rod and that is why you are having trouble with it. Get some 7018 AC and you will forget about that other stuff and its elacticity is so much better than 6013 or 7014. 6010 is also strictly a DC rod. The AC7018 is also easy arc strike and easy restart. For my money on AC you only need the 2 rods, 6011 and the 7018.

Apr 3, 2014 · 7014 was designed to be a less penetrating rod than 7018, but if you weld with it at the upper end of the amp scale it will penetrate quite well. One nice feature of 7014 is it works well welding thin material to thick material, it also was designed to run well on both AC and DC.
