I mean, Rex out lives so many people and still maintains that goodness. That is pretty impressive by itself. I guess what I mean is, I think a character not changing can be just as impressive and transformative as one who does. And that by itself changes the character. Chop assisting basically every turn means that everyone gets massive cooldown reductions. Hera can reduce the cooldowns of allies. Keep this up and you're using Sabine's Demolish and Rex's Suppressing Fire every other one of their turns.

The answer is the commander of the 501st is not shown on screen and most likely is somewhere else off screen leading the battles from a command center or something of the sort.
