Freeway at 70mph = 500-600° depending on wind/grade/load. Of course climbing a steep grade, towing or just romping on it will push your EGTs up to 800-900° really fast.

New fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, glow plugs, glow plug relay, fuel bowl heater, batteries and oil change. Cranks fast, white smoke and occasionaly I can hear it wants to fire, but no start. I have replaces the glow plugs (motorcraft)and glow plug relay (aftermarket) and they seem to be working properly. It starts well down to about freezing. Below that temperature or if it sits in the cold for several days it needs to have the block heater plugged in.
