For bricks of extreme refractory character, the aluminum oxide content can be as high as 50-80% (with correspondingly less silica), and silicon carbide may also be present.

2014年2月14日 · To the op: the mass and heat capacity of the stove is not a substantial factor in extending the time a given load of wood will heat your home. BTU in = BTU out, divided by efficiency, after all. The reason you want mass in the stove is to help even out relatively short (eg. < 30 minute) spikes and dips in firebox temperature.

2015年1月11日 · If using soapstone only as firebrick I don't think the warmup would be hugely slower. Most of the heat in the early stages of the fire are in the upper half of the stove, above the firebrick. At least I haven't heard that complaint from Hearthstone cast iron stove owners.

(9" x 4-1/2" x 1-1/4") When I put the bricks in, I'm ending up with 1/4" - 3/8" gaps. When I installed the original bricks (when stove was new), I had minor gaps (1/8" +).
