Mar 26, 2005 · I don't remember the CPU's in question well enough to say, but others have commented that if you moved to the I7 you would also need a discrete graphics card. That's a double whammy. If the power supply was already "just enough" not only are you adding a higher wattage CPU, but a graphics card as well.

Sep 10, 2020 · One for Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs and one for Coffee Lake CPUs, which is often called LGA 1151 v2. Fastest CPU for the old 1151 socket is the Intel® Core™ i7-7700K, very closely followed by the Xeon E3-1285 v6. As you can't get higher than 4 cores on the old 1151 socket I don't know if a CPU upgrade alone is worth it.

Mar 12, 2018 · I ran my i5 at stock, so going from, say, a 4.5ghz i5 to a locked i7 (maybe OC'd 400mhz to 4.1ghz 4 core turbo / 4.3ghz single core) might have shown a smaller, or no improvement.
