Jul 13, 2018 · I am adding rigid foam to my roof (zone 5) and I am using the opportunity to increase the pitch from 3 1/2 to 4 for a little better drainage. My original rafters are 24" on center but inspector wants the new construction to be 16".

Dec 3, 2012 · Just a guestimate on time, would take 1 guy a full day to remove that roof, safely so you can build a new roof. A good carpenter could rebuild, sheath and roof in 2 days. Not a huge project. might take a homeowner a couple weekends, and will go much faster if you have a contractor friend as a neighbor to help :thumbsup:
Fireplace venting questions - Sewer gas smell
May 27, 2022 · We have not used this fireplace much but when we do, we will usually end up getting a sewer like smell in the upstairs bathroom and it only happens when we have a roaring fire going for several hours. The sewer vent plumbing pipe that exits the roof runs behind the wall near where the smell is most prominent.

Oct 5, 2015 · Firebrick calls for full bedding, and your joints were cracking from shrinkage before you started firing. With refractory cement like you used, you fire right away, as it is a heat set material. With refractory mortar, you fire slowly to remove the moisture. The weather rating of the brick is not important for a firepit, use what you have.

Mar 6, 2021 · As an aside, there would probably be less risk from a gas grill vs. fire pit or charcoal grill embers. Not that I wouldn't be concerned out there. We can have 125 sq ft shed, and no closer than one foot from property line in the rear. I'm not sure about any roof overhang, but probably that can be dinged, too.
