Whooper Swan Ring - BirdForum
On the 02/02/2007 whilst birding at WWT Martin Mere (Lancashire) I tried to read the metal ring of a Whooper Swan. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to get the full code and the Whooper walked into the water! Typical! I asked the WWT staff at Martin Mere to see if they could trace this bird but they said that it wasn’t a WWT ringed swan.

I’ve also heard Pockard or Po-Chard and Scalp, for Pochard and Scaup, but by far the majority pronounce it Poch-ard and Skalwp. When among birders, I feel I should say hooper, but always feel it would be snobbish to do.

2022年4月6日 · Islay regularly receives visits from Whooper Swans on their way too and from their wintering grounds in Ireland. We have always pronounced Whooper as 'Hooper' and have never heard it pronounced any other way by other birders or RSPB staff on Islay. Cannot imagine why/how anyone could think this is 'snobbish'. 2023年3月20日 · Now we are into Summer ( allegedly) I'm pleased to report the long- staying Whooper Swan is now in its third Summer here on the Kent Estuary in South Cumbria. Because of its broken wing it can't fly but it can walk and swim, so it spends its time on the marsh or on the river. Its looking in good shape, apart from the damaged wing.

Dec 4, 2010. #7. Very tricky, but I'd go for Bewicks - yellow appears to be no more than than 1/2 of bill length, and head shape seems a little more angular than I'd expect for Whooper (which have an Eider-like profile). However, this is stretching what can be "seen" a little, maybe!
