We measure every halibut (from its lower jar to the middle of its tail) which gives us a very close estimate of weight. We add up each set in order to calculate how many pounds we have caught so that we don’t go over our quota (or we would receive a fine). Regulations require us to keep any halibut 32 inches or longer. A 32 inch halibut is about 14 pounds. This one is female and to be honest, we don’t remember what it measured.
